{"id":1166,"date":"2020-11-19T12:23:57","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T17:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/instras.com\/?page_id=1166"},"modified":"2023-03-03T06:43:18","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T11:43:18","slug":"high-speed-sck-300s-hack","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/instras.com\/index.php\/high-speed-sck-300s-hack\/","title":{"rendered":"High Speed SCK-300S Modification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/instras.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/P1000542-scaled.jpg\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RM-uU8_CUhA\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The current <strong>SCK-300S<\/strong> is primarily intended for someone looking to do precision spin coating at relatively low speeds (10 &#8211; 5,000 rpms), or for other none traditional uses.\u00a0 To accomplish this, it makes use of a stepper motor, rather than the brushless motors used in the other SCK-300 models.\u00a0 Recently, a client ask about controlling it using a Python script, and we indicated to them that even though that&#8217;s possible, they would be better of replacing the standard motor controller with one designed to interface directly with a computer.<\/p>\n<p>As such, we did a test on our end using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phidgets.com\/?tier=3&amp;catid=23&amp;pcid=20&amp;prodid=1029\">Phidget Stepper Bipolar HC Controller<\/a> and a 24VDC, 2.5A power supply we had lying around the workshop to see what type of performance can be achieved.\u00a0 The nice thing about this controller is that the company provides programming libraries for numerous languages and operating systems.\u00a0 So using small <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ns96\/SCKTalkPhi\">Java control program,<\/a> we were able to run the <strong>SCK-300S<\/strong> at over <strong>9,000 rpms<\/strong>, compared to the typical 5,000 rpms.\u00a0 That&#8217;s certainly a big jump in speed, but would we recommend anyone make this modification?
